The Provost’s Office seeks a casual employee to serve as Equity and Diversity Education Specialist. This individual will play an important role in the diversity and inclusion (D&I) and learning and development (L&D) initiatives in the office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity.

The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity oversees initiatives to fulfill the University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and fair treatment of all members of the campus community, and to monitor compliance with University policies and federal, state and local laws concerning nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and affirmative action. Responsibilities

The Education Specialist will assist in designing and implementing a strategic education and training program for students, faculty and staff focused on diversity and inclusion topics such as implicit bias, inclusive best practices for mentoring, research and teaching, bystander intervention skills, discrimination and harassment.

  • Assist with development and implementation of new online and in-person educational materials and programs
  • Lead and/or facilitate diversity- and inclusion-related training, workshops and presentations
  • Conduct research to gather scholarly content for educational programs
  • Maintain education tracking and evaluation systems

This is a temporary casual role. The Education Specialist must be available on a flexible part-time basis as circumstances require.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least three years of relevant experience in the areas of higher education, training, and/or diversity and inclusion.
  • Three to five years relevant experience developing and facilitating training on a wide range of diversity and inclusion topics.
  • Experienced facilitator who is able to customize training, read one’s audience, think on one’s feet, and adapt creatively to meet the audience present, particularly when working with diverse groups who may not have D&I expertise or experience.
  • Ability to independently organize, prioritize and carry out detailed work under time constraints.
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to cultivate partnerships in Princeton’s diverse community of students, faculty and staff.
  • Familiarity with academic culture.
  • comfort with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of D&I topics, including current research and national trends in higher education, with an emphasis on discrimination, harassment and organizational climate.
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion, and ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using technology, including presentation software.

PREFERRED

  • Advanced degree in an academic field and experience working in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Knowledge and expertise regarding Title IX.
  • Experience with conducting program evaluation and assessment.
