The Opportunity

The School of Social Sciences is an exceptional community of scholars who are at the forefront of a wide range of social science and humanities disciplines, including Anthropology, Criminology, Development Studies, International Relations, Social Research and Policy, Politics, Social Work, and Sociology. The School hosts the UNSW Chair in Intellectual Disability Behaviour Support, the Gender Violence Research Network, the Globalisation and Governance Research network and collaborates with the Centre for Social Research in Health and the Social Policy Research Centre (located within the Faculty). The School combines rigorous scholarship in the social science disciplines with effective engagement with key contemporary social issues, both locally and globally.

The school is currently seeking an experienced counselling practitioner and teacher of social work to join its team, commencing May 2020. This is a full-time continuing Education-Focused Lecturer position. In the School of Social Sciences mixed-track academics teach a set number of hours per term in two out of UNSW’s three terms. An Education Focussed academic teaches the same set number of hours per term, but across all three terms. They also have responsibility for a special project to contribute to the learning and teaching activities of the School

  • Salary: B $107,210- $126,386 + 17% superannuation & Annual Leave loading
  • Full time- 35hr/per week

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
  • Initiation and development of subject or course material.
  • Acting as subject or course coordinators.
  • The preparation and delivery of lectures or seminars.
  • Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior academics.
  • Marking and assessment.
  • Consultation with students.
  • Evidence of a contribution to the profession, and/or discipline in the area of counselling.
  • A range of administrative functions the majority of which are connected with the subjects in which the academic teaches.
  • Attendance at School and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a number of committees
