The Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Computational Fluid Dynamics to work on a research project with academic and industrial partners on a fixed term contact.

The research project considers numerical study of a non-Newtonian fluid over a rotating cylinder with textured surface. Working as a member of a team you will be engaged in the numerical study of a non-Newtonian fluid over a rotating cylinder with textured surface with the objective of improving and optimising the performance of the roll.

You should hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering, applied mathematics or physics plus ideally a PhD degree in fluid mechanics or related field. Experience in CFD using commercial or open-source packages, along with experience of using OpenFOAM or Ansys-Fluent or another commercial CFD package is preferred along with experience in programming.

The position will require you to attend regular project meetings; deliver presentations at conferences, seminars and group meetings; undertake the writing of technical reports, journal and conference papers and visiting industrial collaborators. Other attributes such as an ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving along with effective time-management skills and the ability to work to deadlines for project deliverables are essential.
