Job Summary

As a member of the Alumni Communities team within the Stanford Alumni Association, the Regional Manager will work closely with alumni volunteers, faculty, students, the Office of Development, and other university colleagues to develop, implement, and evaluate activities, programs, services, and communications that reach, serve, and engage alumni. In addition, the Regional Manager will market, plan, and/or manage alumni programs, educational opportunities and/or other alumni initiatives, and participate in strategic planning and serve as representative of the organization.

The Regional Manager will work to strengthen and build volunteer-led alumni communities in Southern California and the Central Coast, including Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Inland Empire and Monterey.  Los Angeles is the second largest alumni population area and of significant importance to the university, requiring a skilled alumni relations manager.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers and volunteer led projects.
  • Develop contacts and maintain relationships with alumni, faculty, students, staff, and vendors.
  • Plan large scale and/or high level alumni programs and events.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments and schools to achieve the goals of alumni programs or projects.
  • Work with other departments to identify and implement new markets and develop program strategies.
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cost negotiations for alumni events and programs.
  • Evaluate alumni programs and services for customer satisfaction.
  • Occasional travel to Southern California and Monterey to meet with alumni and staff events (approximately 8 times per year.)

To be successful in the role you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to represent the university professionally both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience with volunteer development and oversight.
  • An understanding and appreciation for diversity and inclusivity.
  • Strong interpersonal, team, and leadership skills; tact and flexibility in working with diverse population groups.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to analyze problems quickly and accurately, and the ability to develop practical and effective solutions to solve a variety of problems.
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems.
