Senior Lecturer/Course Leader in Media Production and Technology
(Fixed Term Contract to August 2021)
HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication & Creative Industries Hebei University, Baoding, Hebei Province, China

£32,873 per annum (pro rata) plus attractive benefits including additional £1,500 (pro rata) bonus at the end of the academic year following a full year’s service

HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries is a partnership between Hebei University in China and the University of Central Lancashire in Preston UK. It was established in 2014 and now has 800 students studying for UCLan validated degrees. This is an exciting period for the School as, in the early part of 2020, the School will move to a new purpose-built building on campus in Baoding. This will provide students with some of the best accommodation and facilities for Art, Design and Media in China.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resourceful media specialist to lead the BA (Hons) degree programme in Media Production and Technology. This includes technical aspects such as camera work, lighting, audio and sound, video and post production, editing and film theory. We also require a forward-looking subject specialist who is future orientated and has a good understanding of future trends and influences within this subject domain.

This is an outstanding and quite unique opportunity to work as part of a team out in China, to develop a high quality creative industries facility on a large modern campus at Hebei University. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to develop leadership skills within a dynamic environment which seeks to nurture new content development within a unique cross-cultural setting.

The School has joint non-independent status and has approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education. We are now looking towards the second phase of the partnership and recently received approval from the MoE to start the development of Masters level provision. We are also in discussions with relevant professional sectors in Hebei Province looking towards the establishment of research and innovation centres in key areas such as digital content and cultural heritage. This presents an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to build a professional profile within a unique cross-cultural and dynamic environment.

Hebei University (HBU) is located in the historic city of Baoding, approximately 36 minutes from Beijing by the new fast train. The city is becoming a commuter base for Beijing and Hebei Province has a total population of over 77 million people.

The programmes currently validated and running in the joint School are:

BA (Hons) Advertising
BA (Hons) Animation
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA (Hons) Interior Design
BA (Hons) Media Production and Technology
BA (Hons) Media and Film and Production

The role is subject to references, DBS Check and obtaining a China work Z visa (restrictions apply). A Master’s degree (in a related discipline) is also a requirement of the Hebei local government for the work visa.

In addition to the competitive salary, there is a £1,500 (pro rata) bonus payable at the end of the academic year upon completion of a full year’s service; the attractive benefits package also includes accommodation, visa and two return economy flights (up to a value of £1,000 per return flight) per academic year to the Lecturer’s home country.

Company

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in Preston in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge.  Since those early days it has transitioned into one of the UK’s leading, modern universities with a student body comprising some 120 nations and an overall learning community approaching 38,000.

Throughout its development ‘Ex solo ad solem’, or in translation, ‘From the Earth to the Sun’, has been its motto – helping talented people from all walks of life to make the most of their potential. Staff at UCLan pride themselves on putting the needs of students at the centre of everything they do and in 2014 this shared core value was highlighted when the University achieved IIP Gold status.

In 2015 the Centre for World University Rankings placed UCLan in the top 3.8 percent of all worldwide universities and over the coming years UCLan’s £200 million Campus Masterplan development will create a truly world-class educational environment that will propel the University to new levels of excellence.
