Our Office of Medical Center Development (MCD) is seeking a mission-driven individual with a passion for philanthropy and a background in design to work out of our new state-of-the-art campus in Redwood City, CA.

You will be a highly versatile and organized creative professional who works collaboratively with a team of writers, designers, web and social media staff, and production managers to effectively engage donors. Your specific duties include the design of print and digital communications such as invitations, brochures, whitepapers, solicitations, and newsletters. You will also attend and/or advise on press checks, and help ensure the high quality and visual consistency of materials produced.

Reporting to, and working closely as a thought partner with the assistant director of design, you will be part of a top-notch creative services team that works collaboratively to advance the mission of supporting education for tomorrow’s medical leaders, creating new standards in health-care delivery, and advancing some of the most promising and creative medical research underway in America today.

You are an organized, self-starter and creative designer with excellent interpersonal, project and people management skills. You have experience working for nonprofits or in the fields of medicine and/or science.

Additionally, you have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, serving as a lead on projects that require input from fundraisers, faculty, and various other internal stakeholders.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Taking responsibility for projects from client contact through delivery and under general creative direction.
  • Producing complex illustrations, graphics, images, and typography for design assignments.
  • Creating the artwork and design for a variety of platforms, including layout for digital and print projects, starting from an initial concept and thinking in terms of broader solutions.
  • Maintaining quality control of content, and supporting design strategy and execution.
  • Inspecting proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards.
  • May coordinate with multiple internal and external clients to develop themes and designs to achieve desired results.
  • Coordinating workflow between design development and vendors and print shops to evaluate quality and process, obtain quotes, and select a vendor/printer.
  • Maintaining knowledge of industry standards, best practices, trends, and state-of-the-art technology to provide and enhance services.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of graphic design principles and typography.  Professional portfolio or work samples required to be considered for the role. 
  • Demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • Familiarity with WorkFront or other project management platforms a plus.
  • Ability to manage projects using pre-established specifications.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and client needs. Comfortable with a level of ambiguity.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team. Highly effective collaborator, open to input and constructive critique from multiple sources.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge in industry standards, trends, and technical knowledge

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, and reach/work above shoulders.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat.
  • Visual acuity including color vision.
