Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a project entitled " "How cyanobacteria detect carbon dioxide: molecular events in the global carbon cycle"

As a collaboration between Professor Martin Cann, Department of Biosciences and Dr David Hodgson, Department of Chemistry, we have designed new methodology to assess protein interactions with carbon dioxide. The methodology works through using bespoke chemical biology tools to trap the carbon dioxide on protein.

We have gained funds from the Leverhulme Trust to investigate protein-carbon dioxide interactions in the cyanobacteria.

The role of the post holder is to research and implement solutions to challenges posed by this project. These challenges lie in the fields of chemistry and biology. The postholder will be helped by Professor Cann and Dr Hodgson to find solutions and the candidate will need experience in both fields to implement the solutions.

The post requires good skills in reporting research progress verbally, and in writing.

This post is fixed term for 7 months duration, owing to the nature of the funding

The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.

Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by January 2020
