The mitochondrial morphogenesis group led by Docent Hongxia Zhao is inviting applications for

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS OR DOCTORAL STUDENTS IN CELL BIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

The full-time position will start in February, 2020, or later by agreement.

Mitochondria are key regulators of many important cellular processes and mitochondrial dysfunction results in a large number of human diseases and aging. Mitochondrial function relies on their shape, complex membrane ultrastructure and dynamics. The molecular mechanism of mitochondrial membrane architectural organization and factors involved in regulation of mitochondrial shape and dynamics remain largely unknown. The research group of Hongxia Zhao uses a wide array of biochemical, biophysical, cell biological, and genetic methods to identify and characterize novel proteins critical for mitochondrial morphogenesis and dynamics, to address the underlying molecular mechanisms and their functional link to mitochondrial diseases.

We are now looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individual(s) with a strong background in cell biology and biochemistry. Strong expertise in mitochondrial biology is highly beneficial. The working language of the lab is English and knowledge of the Finnish language is not necessary.

The salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities, and the starting salary of the doctoral student will be based on level 2. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be ca. 3200– 3500 euros/month and that of the doctoral student will be ca. 2200–2300 euros/month, depending on the appointees’ qualifications and experience. A six-month trial period will be applied.

To apply, please submit your application using the University of Helsinki electronic recruitment system by clicking on Apply for the position. Internal applicants must submit their applications through the SAP HR portal.

Upload a single pdf-file containing a one-page letter with a personal statement outlining your research interests and relevant work experience, your CV and bibliography and contact information for 2-3 references.
