The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to work closely with Professor Neil Walsh and his collaborators to act as project co-ordinator for a four-year programme of work to determine novel risk factors for heat strain in military recruits.  

You will be expected to take a lead role in all aspects of the programme of work, including: study design; ethical approval; the day-to-day running and administration of a multi-site, collaborative research programme; the implementation of interventions; assisting in the collection and interpretation of data; and the production of technical reports and manuscripts for publication.

You should have completed a PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g. exercise science, thermal physiology). Experience of conducting high quality research and publishing in high quality journals is essential. Experience of leading high-level research projects is essential, as is experience of biological sample collection (including venous blood collection), handling, storage (in accordance with GLP), biochemical analysis and an awareness of quality control techniques. Some experience of performing research in the field and working with sponsors from industry is desirable.

A willingness to travel between research locations within the UK is an essential requirement of the role and possessing a full driving licence is desirable. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise a continuously demanding workload. You must be computer literate with the ability to use statistical packages and Microsoft Office.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence the post on or before 1st February 2020.
