QUT's Science and Engineering Faculty's mission is to be the partner of choice for STEM education and research. The Faculty delivers programs in Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, and Urban Development to over 12,000 students. The Faculty is home to outstanding researchers of international renown, including four ARC Australia Laureate Fellows.

The Head of School is a key member of the Science and Engineering Faculty Executive team and as such, this is an outstanding leadership opportunity to create and implement an ambitious strategy to expand research activity, deliver outstanding STEM education and build mutually beneficial relationships with industry and other partners.  Reporting to the Deputy Dean, the Head of School will be an inclusive leader, skilled communicator, with the ability to work with all levels of the University and partners, to lead, support, and develop the School’s strengths in research, teaching, and external engagement.

The School of Mathematical Sciences provides teaching and research excellence in Applied and Computational Mathematics, Statistics and Operations research. The broad research themes include developing and analysing mathematical models, solving mathematical problems using numerical methods and computer simulation, developing statistical and computational methods for translating data into information and providing optimised solutions for complex decision-making processes. The School has a strong connection to the Data Sciences, concentrating on the mathematical and statistical underpinnings of new methods for analysing data and making informed decisions.
