The Opportunity

The School of Humanities and Languages in UNSW Arts & Social Sciences is one of Australia’s leading centres of teaching and research excellence in History, Philosophy, Environmental Humanities, Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies. The School administers the Bachelor of International Studies, as well as several of the disciplinary areas of the Bachelor of Arts, and a number of coursework programs at postgraduate level, including the Masters of Environmental Management. The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environment & Society will make a substantial contribution to teaching in the School’s undergraduate streams in Environmental Humanities and may also contribute to the postgraduate programs in Environmental Management. The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will also make a substantial contribution to producing critical and innovative research in a relevant field. They are also expected to undertake academic engagement and leadership as appropriate to the level of appointment

  • Salary: B/C $107,201- $149,394 + 17% superannuation & Annual Leave loading
  • Full time- 35hr/per week 
  • Location: Kensington Campus – Sydney, Australia

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities for level B may include:

  • Preparing and conducting lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and/or practical classes.
  • Coordinating courses.
  • Developing course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior academics.
  • Marking and assessment.
  • Consulting with students.
  • Supervising honours and postgraduate research projects.
  • Supervising the program of study of honours students and of postgraduate students engaged in course work.
  • Conducting research.
  • Performing a range of administrative functions, the majority of which relate to the subjects in which the academic teaches.
  • Attending departmental and/or faculty meetings and/or being a member of committees.
  • Cooperating with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and taking all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

In addition, responsibilities for level C may include:

  • Conducting research, including, where appropriate, leading a research team.
  • Performing broad administrative functions.
