Lancaster University’s Department of Sociology invites applications for a full-time Teaching and Research Lecturer position in Media Studies (three year fixed term). We particularly want to enrich our existing research strengths in one or more of the following areas: Transnational Media; Global Media (non-Western); Inequalities and Media; Social Media Activism; Screen Studies; Media and Consumer Society; Media and Environmental Activism; Media and Democracy; Decolonising Media (as practice). We especially welcome applicants who employ Critical Race, Post-Colonial, Indigenous, and Feminist approaches and who are excited by the possibilities of our dynamic and interdisciplinary research department.

You will be able to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the theory and/or practice of media, as well as supervise graduate student research. We also particularly welcome applicants with experience in diversifying assessment through creative/critical media project work or audio-visual projects.

We are seeking a lecturer who can: develop our student experience beyond the curriculum (through field trips and our student experience programme); participate in recruitment visits to schools and colleges; contribute to the University’s ambitious widening participation targets; foster links with international partners; generate excellent learning environments for international students; and contribute to our Global Summer School programme in Media.

Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Digital Transition Officer within the Transitions team.  

You will contribute to the digital development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services.  Support will be focused on improving the transition to University and the student experience of specific Widening Participation (WP) groups including disabled students and mature students.  You will need experience of developing on-line training or support, and of developing and designing attractive web content.  You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop effective schemes and services.You should have experience of collection and analysing data, as well as excellent organisation and problem solving skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.  

You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services. You should have experience of preparing written reports and the ability to present evaluation data in a meaningful way for a variety of audiences. Knowledge and understanding of disability would be an advantage.  Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.
