In this position, you will contribute to the delivery of Cranfield University’s research in water and waterway engineering and materials science in the EPSRC-funded project ‘Improved prediction of cohesive sediment erosion based on inter-particle forces’. The ambitious project aims to develop transferable predictive models of cohesive sediment erodibility though new empirical research and modelling.
You will work with an interdisciplinary team of natural scientists and materials engineers to conduct laboratory experiments and develop a computational dynamics model of cohesive sediment erosion. The empirical research will be conducted in the new state-of-the-art cohesive sediment erosion flume at Cranfield University, funded by EPSRC. The project represents an excellent opportunity to foster interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in environmental and materials engineering to resolve a long-standing challenge in sediment erosion research.
You will have a PhD (obtained or near completion) in environmental or materials engineering, or allied disciplines. Knowledge and experience in computational modelling (such as molecular dynamics, discrete element modelling (DEM), or computational fluid dynamics (CFD)) and excellent programming skills are essential. Prior experience in laboratory experimentation or physical modelling in hydraulics is advantageous. You should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a track record in writing and publishing your research.
