About the opportunity 

The Department of Government and International Relations is seeking to appoint a two-year fixed term education-focused Lecturer (Level B, 0.5 FTE) in Security Studies, broadly defined. Applicants with expertise in any area of security studies are welcome; however, you must have relevant teaching experience in political science, international relations, and security studies, including cyber security, terrorism and security and other non-traditional security issues. A Lecturer (EFR) is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (up to 70% - or 80%). 

As the successful applicant you will:

  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels
  • undertake independent teaching in the discipline, area of expertise and/or related area
  • contribute to core teaching across the undergraduate Politics & International Relations curriculum and postgraduate units, in particular showcasing expertise in one or more of the following areas: cyber security, energy security, terrorism and organized crimes
  • supervise honours and postgraduate students
  • evaluate teaching and learning and apply learnings to improve practice and outcomes in the units coordinated
  • contribute to the design and delivery of multidisciplinary work-integrated learning units and content

About you

  • a PhD (awarded) in international relations, security studies or relevant fields
  • demonstrated teaching ability and experience in cyber security, terrorism and security and other non-traditional security issues, and evidence of teaching effectiveness such as student evaluations
  • demonstrated experience in independent teaching in the discipline, area of expertise and/or related area
  • evidence of contributing to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
  •      demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  •      demonstrated experience in supervising honours and postgraduate students
  •      ability to develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the school/faculty
  • willingness to work collaboratively where coordination of units involves across school/faculty cooperation with professionalism
