About the opportunity
The Academic Facilitator contributes to the facilitation of education programs and the teaching and learning efforts within the National Centre of Cultural Competence while working with the support and guidance of more senior academic staff to develop their education and research proficiency.
The following activities and accountabilities are designed to deliver outcomes aligned with the University’s strategic goals:
- contribute to outstanding teaching and learning outcomes at the NCCC
- support the end-to-end design of the research program and conduct research projects in the NCCC under the supervision of senior academic staff within the NCCC
- contribute to a positive workplace culture within the School/ Faculty
- contributes to the strategic direction of the University
- engage beyond the University by developing profile through conferences, seminars and outreach activities.

- experience in facilitation of workshops in cultural competence for a variety of audiences
- experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by teaching in a variety of settings
- an understanding of cultural competence and commitment to Aboriginal cultures and society and demonstrated superior experience in working with, and communicating with Aboriginal people, government, industry and civil society
- a developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice and design
- excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
- the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
- accuracy, attention to detail and highly organised. Planning, analysis and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
- a PhD or progression towards a PhD.

The NCCC also embraces the implications of cultural competence for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. In doing so the NCCC makes a substantial contribution to the cohesive and productive capabilities of society.
