FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is a leading Australian university with a history of outstanding achievements in teaching and learning, research and community engagement. It is fundamentally committed to providing our diverse body of students with an engaging world-class and internationally oriented learning experience. The University has also established a strong research profile and an outstanding record of achievement in research performance and intensity over the last decade.

Sitting within the Faculty of Social Sciences and established in 2013, the School of Health and Society is a dynamic, inter-disciplinary community of health and social science scholars of national and international standing with a goal to change society for the better. It comprises four disciplines – Criminology and Social Policy, Public Health, Social Work, and Work Health and Safety – and two research units – PowerLab and the Australian Centre for Health Engagement, Evidence and Values. The School has identified 5 inter-disciplinary research themes to create a focus for collaborative initiatives: Ageing in a social context; Global Indigenous knowledges and decolonization; Preventing and managing chronic conditions; Understanding and preventing violence; and Safety @ work and in the community.

The School is now seeking to appoint a new Professor of Criminology and Social Policy, who will lead the discipline and play a key role in the School leadership team. The appointee will be an accomplished scholar of international repute (as attested through publications and grant capture), able to locate her/himself within domains of focus for the School (see above) and the discipline, while also displaying a strong commitment to inter-disciplinarity. She/he will be able to provide leadership across research, teaching, external engagement, and mentorship, thus shaping the future direction of the Discipline of Criminology and Public Policy.
