The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. Founded in 2000, it has four faculties and around 3,000 students. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with its ten institutes and departments focuses on interdisciplinarity and innovation in research and teaching. The Faculty offers its almost 900 students a range of courses that are unique in Switzerland, placing great emphasis on excellent support and a close link between research and teaching activities.

 The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint an

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track, 50%) in Modern and Contemporary European History

The position includes the option of a full professorship after five years.

We invite candidates who are willing to engage with the specific Swiss historical experience, who document a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and who show an interest in broadening their academic profile in view of other historical periods, geographical spaces and neighboring disciplines.

 As a small institution, the University of Lucerne allows for contact across the disciplines also to the fields of theology, law, economics and health sciences. At this young institution, many options for organizational innovation exist in a dynamic environment. We invite a new colleague to join our Faculty who has strong communication skills, who wishes to expand her/his historical research and teaching expertise and who can contribute to the development of our organization.
