There is an immediate opening for a post doctoral research associate position in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering at Northumbria University. You will work live streamed digital data from different sensors that needs to be automatically processed and communicated. The wider project team includes Dr Mike Lim, Professor James Martin, Dr Stuart Dunning (Newcastle University), Dr Hamdi Torun and Dr Nanlin Jin. You will also work closely with another PDRA Dr Rupert Bainbridge (Newcastle University), who will focus on the environmental monitoring data collection and live streaming. The work will benefit from state-of-the-art research facilities and supported more widely by a mix of postdoctoral research fellows and research students. The research group has achieved a strong research profile with leading international publications, successful grants and industrial collaborative projects.

This fully funded Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is part of a feasibility study supported by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The project aim is to research and develop the collection, analysis and streaming of key environmental and slope response datasets. This vital work will support new and appropriate decision-making by the network operator, Transport Scotland. The specific focus of the post is to develop suitable architecture (involving both hardware and software) to receive, process and disseminate essential new digital data to industry and authority project partners. You will get to work with live streamed datasets, supported by a project team with a wide ranging complimentary skills set and work closely with nationally significant stakeholders.

The applicant should have a track record of high impact journal publication, and related research experience in one or more of the following: Computer programming (MatLab preferred), signal processing, software development, data streaming, image analyses or related disciplines.
