A Research Assistant is sought to work on a longitudinal project examining the development of mathematics and literacy.  This post is to work on a Nuffield Foundation funded project examining the impact of cognition, language and environmental factors on the development of academic skills.  Further information about the project can be found at the project website.

Project website :

This project is an extension of a previous longitudinal project (that followed children from preschool to the end of Reception).  In the extension project, we will follow the children’s progress as they progress through Key Stage 1.  We will be examining the development of children’s literacy and mathematical skills. You will support the project during the crucial assessment phase. You will be responsible for administering a range of mathematics and literacy assessments.  You will be working closely with the research associate who is managing the project.

You will have a degree in psychology or a closely related discipline and be able to work effectively with young children. The post involves significant travel to multiple sites within Merseyside and the adjoining Counties and requires flexible working to meet tight deadlines.  This is a fixed-term position for six months and you must be able to take up the post on 10 February 2020.

Informal enquires about the position and requests for further information should be directed to the research team using the email address, Dr Fiona Simmons:
