About the position

We have a vacancy for a temporary Reseracher

The theme of the researcher position revolves around organic synthesis. On one end, the candidate is expected to synthesize the appropriate addends to functionalize and solubilize graphene and/or carbon nanotubes. On the other hand, we are seeking a candidate to work on synthesizing monomers, suitable for polymerization. We are seeking a person with an interest in organic synthesis and the application of the synthesized materials in the end-device as part of an international research effort on carbon capture. Knowledge of carbon capture and storage processes, polymer synthesis, carbon nanomaterial functionalization and their related characterization techniques is an advantage. The position is located at NTNU in Trondheim Norway.

Start date: 10-15. December 2019.

Duration of project: 18 months

The position reports to Associate Professor Solon Economopoulos

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Synthesis and characterization of organic addends
  • Functionalization of carbon nanostructures
  • Supervision of post-graduate researchers

Qualification requirements

  • PhD in materials/chemistry or related science
  • Strong background in Organic Synthesis
  • Strong background in high quality peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate level student/researchers
  • Good written and oral English language skills

Desired qualifications 

  • Experience in Polymer synthesis and/or characterization (GPC, DSC etc) will be considered an advantage
  • Experience in carbon nanostructure functionalization and characterization (RAMAN, TGA etc) will be considered an advantage
  • Experience in carbon capture technologies will be considered an advantage

The successful candidate should be creative, with a strong ability to work towards problem solving. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams. Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of Researcher code 1109 is normally remunerated at gross starting from NOK 523 200,- before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
