Overview:

The school of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral researcher to work on an EPSRC funded project making novel nanomaterials, screening performance for energy devices and then scaling into fully working devices. This project will be carried out in the research group of Dr Patrick Cullen.

The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out research in the areas of 2D materials, phosphorene nanoribbons and nanoparticles in electrochemical applications, overseeing the setting up and running of experiments, ensuring that results are recorded, analysed and written up in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD (or about to be awarded) or equivalent qualification / experience in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related discipline and have experience of working collaboratively in a research environment with the ability to analyse and write up and effectively present complex information to a variety of audiences.  The ability to make and test energy devices / catalysts and experience of materials synthesis is desirable.

The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment is available from January 2020 initially until 01 June 2021, with the potential to be extended for a further six months. Starting salary will be from £31,613 to £38,084 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
