Early Start is a major research facility of UOW. It draws together researchers from each of the four schools in the Faculty of Social Sciences to conduct multidisciplinary research.

The vision of Early Start is for children to flourish, be active learners, and to become engaged members of our society. The mission of Early Start’s research is to influence policy and practice through interdisciplinary research and inter-sectoral collaborations that improve knowledge and understanding of child development, health and learning.

Early Start has recently updated its research strategy, which articulates the research agenda and approach. Early Start is engaged in research across its four intersecting themes: Food and Movement Behaviours; Play, Pedagogy and Curriculum; Interactive Processes in Development; and Self-Regulatory and Cognitive Development. These themes will contribute to the four Engagement Frontiers of Early Start: Experiential Learning, Community-Focused Interventions, Measurement and Methodology, and Multi-National Leadership in Research Projects.

The key responsibilities of this position include supporting the research programs associated with the two Engagement Frontiers outlined above.
