Salary Scale: up to £33,500 per annum, plus £5,000 personal development budget

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed Term: 30 months

An exciting opportunity for a Chemical Engineer/Mechanical Engineer has become available to work full time on a fixed term 30 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between ACS Clothing Limited, Eurocentral and the University of the West of Scotland.  The aim of the project is to develop an improved, scalable and environmentally friendly means of continuous garment sanitisation using ozone or related technology, along with online front end automation and integration within existing continuous workflows.  As a result of the multi-disciplinary nature of this continuous sanitising system project, the successful candidate will be immersed in a project with experts in physical chemistry, ozone photochemistry, microbiology, instrumentation, controls and automation (conveyor-based garment handling) and computational programming. 

The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to register free of charge for a Higher Degree (Masters or Ph.D.), receive training in Chartered Management Institute (level 5), work with senior company management to realise benefits to the business and apply their degree and lead their own project in a business environment.

ACS Clothing Ltd was established in 1997 in Glasgow, initially focusing on the rental of highland wear to the Scottish market. It now has key contracts with multiple retailers and has expanded the product range to include formal wear as well as highland wear, servicing customers via an ultra-modern 85,000 square foot facility at Euro Central.  With state-of-the-art automated garment handling technology, including RFID tagging, ACS partner with household names such as Burton, Debenhams, M&CO and Slater Menswear, supporting their hire wear businesses.  https://www.acsclothing.co.uk/

The successful candidate must possess a BSc/BEng in Chemical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Sciences and a relevant MSc in Applied Science or Chemical Engineering with Ozone/UV Sanitisation Science and/or equivalent research and development experience.  Academic or industrial experience of designing, developing and programming novel cleaning systems will be highly advantageous.  Knowledge of Mechatronics Engineering related to chemical engineering, conveyors and garments handling is highly desirable.  Further computational programming would be an asset.  Academic or industrial experience of designing, developing and programming novel cleaning systems will be highly advantageous.
