Overview:

Applications are sought for a Data Manager/Scientist to contribute to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund Tissue Bank (PCRFTB) through the maintenance and expansion of its clinical data infrastructure, working closely with the PCRFTB key and collaborating centres. The successful applicant will expertise in relational database management systems including MySQL, scripting language including Perl or Python, and database-oriented web application development technologies. The research will be based in the Bioinformatics Unit, Barts Cancer Institute, Charterhouse Square within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London.

Essential requirements for this post include a BSc/PhD degree in Computer Science/Data Science/Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or a relevant discipline, and substantial experience in relational database design and implementation. The successful applicant also needs to be proficient in web application development. Experience of data management within a health environment and knowledge on contemporary data science technologies are desirable. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and expanding an existing web-based data infrastructure for the PCRFTB resource. Knowledge of Research Governance, data Protection Act and Good Clinical Practice is highly desirable. The post-holder will be required to work flexibly with various members in the PCRFTB team at the coordinating centre. A demonstrated ability to communicate well and working within a team are therefore essential.

The post is full time, fixed term for 12 months. Starting salary will be in the range of £38,084 - £39,125 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.  Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
