Equality Officer

Office of the Vice President for Equality and Diversity (Permanent)

The Role

Maynooth University is seeking to recruit an Equality Officer who will work in the Office of the Vice President for Equality and Diversity to advance, in an integrated manner, equality, diversity, inclusion and inter-culturalism (EDI) across the entire University community, students and staff.

Through the ongoing review of universities policies, practices and procedures, the Equality Officer will work with the Vice President for Equality and Diversity to implement the EDI strategic goal of the University, namely to build on our achievements to date and become a model University for equality, diversity, inclusion and inter-culturalism, where social justice, addressing inequality and empowering people are central to our mission. The Equality Officer will support EDI in the University through enabling structures and by assisting with the development of appropriate behaviours and culture. 

The post-holder will have responsibility for a variety of administrative duties including:

  • To review the Universities Equality and Diversity and related policies, procedures and guidelines in partnership with colleagues to ensure legal compliance and good practice, clarity and fit with the University’s strategic aims for EDI under the guidance of the Vice President for Equality and Diversity, and the joint Governing Authority/Academic Council EDI Committee;
  • In collaboration with the relevant internal and external stakeholders, develop new policies, procedures and guidelines to communicate EDI standards;
  • To provide appropriate advice to colleagues in relation to EDI, ensuring the University operates within the relevant legal and good practice frameworks;
  • To advise and support the University, and in particular the Vice President for Equality and Diversity, in ensuring the University meets the Public Sector duty to promote equality and protect human rights.  To specifically advise on plans, assessments, and reporting of progress on the Public Sector Duty;
  • To work closely with colleagues in the Institutional Research Office, the Access Office, Athena SWAN Project Officer and Human Resources to prepare and analyse data for the University’s key EDI performance indicators;
  • To draft and deliver reports and papers to the University Executive, EDI Committee and consultative forums as required including presenting statistical information on the full range of equality grounds as covered in the Employment Equality Acts, and responsibility for the implementation and follow up of recommendations and actions contained in the reports;
  • To develop, implement and maintain EDI communications in liaison with colleagues in the Communications department;
  • To provide the secretariat for the joint Governing Authority/Academic Council EDI Committee;
  • To identify co-ordinate and deliver EDI related development supports on behalf of the University which support the EDI strategy of the University, e.g. Staff and Student Induction, Aurora Programme;
  • To represent the University on external bodies to help develop the national agenda in the area of EDI, and to communicate MU work and input on same;
  • To undertake other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, that may be assigned by the Vice President for Equality and Diversity.

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications / Training

Essential

  • Third level qualification or relevant relative experience 

Desirable

  • A post-graduate or professional qualification in a relevant discipline

Salary

Administrative Officer I (2019): €49,177 - €70,121 per annum (9 points)

Appointment will be made in accordance with the Department of Finance pay guidelines.

*New entrants to the public sector will be appointed on the first point of the salary scale.
