The School of Environmental and Rural Science (ERS) is a research-intensive School that attracts outside and internal competitive funding to support research at the leading edge of ecological and agricultural research, nationally and internationally. The school spans eight disciplines including:  Agronomy and Soil Science, Animal Science, Botany, Genetics, Earth Sciences, Ecosystem Management, Environmental Engineering and Zoology.

About the role

The role includes face to face and online teaching at first, second- and third-year levels, and the supervision of students at Honours, postgraduate coursework and higher degree research level. Applicants are expected to be actively publishing high-quality and high-impact research and to attract external research funding to the University. Service expectations will be commensurate with the level of the role including active participation in School, Faculty or University Committees, and administrative roles as well as service to the wider community and profession.

Skills & experience

The successful appointee will have a PhD awarded within the last 5 years (or near completion) in soil physics or a relevant discipline, and experience and interest in the delivery of high-quality tertiary-level teaching. UNE engages strongly with students living in rural and regional areas and delivers units in on-campus and external education modes. We are looking for applicants who are able to provide high-quality curricula, teaching and assessment in the fields of soil water, soil physics, plant-soil-water interactions and applied irrigation technologies to enhance student learning using modern teaching technology, resources and pedagogy appropriate to on-campus and online delivery modes. Applicants should have a demonstrated research portfolio and be willing to build or participate in collaborations with industry partners, external stakeholders and other researchers in the environmental, agricultural and biological sciences.
