Overview:

The School and Business (SBM) seek to recruit an inspirational teacher and educational leader to a Lectureship in Finance. Experienced candidates with a strong university teaching record are encouraged to apply. All applicants should have the ability to teach and supervise effectively across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Department of Accounting and Financial Management.

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)

QMUL has been recognised as a top 100 university in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings, and placed 9th in the UK among multi-faculty institutions in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. It is the fourth largest college in the University of London and is growing rapidly through sustained investments in facilities on one of London’s largest campuses (Mile End), excellent research and improving the student experience. QMUL is a highly internationalised university, but with deep roots and continuing engagement with East London communities.

School of Business and Management

The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 85 academic staff, with more appointments in process. We have over 1400 undergraduate Business Studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have around 800 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 60 doctoral students.

SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science led approach to our scholarship, and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

As a Lecturer, you will lead and deliver modules in finance on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and provide supervision for dissertation projects within the Department of Accounting and Financial Management. You will have completed a doctorate (or have a doctorate under examination) in a relevant subject. The successful applicant will have the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of practice as well as a commitment to cross-disciplinary learning and research-based teaching.

QMUL is strongly committed to the development of all its staff and we will ensure that the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop their teaching and administrative skills. Colleagues in teaching-focused roles have access to a full range of professional development support, including an annual allowance to support their scholarship or pedagogical activities. Queen Mary recently revised the university’s promotion guidelines to provide comprehensive and clear promotion routes for T&S staff up to and including the academic rank of professor.

The post is full time and permanent. Applicants who wish to be considered for a job-share arrangement or for flexible working are welcome. Queen Mary is committed to improving the gender and cultural diversity of its workforce and welcomes applicants from all sections of the community.

Starting salary will be in the range £42,433 - £52,883 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance and benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme, and interest-free travel season ticket loan.

Your online application should include a CV plus evidence of your teaching (for example recent evaluations and teaching awards or other recognition). As part of the selection process you will be asked to present to members of the School, details of which will be provided if you are shortlisted. The post is available any time after 1st January 2020.

Enquiries can be addressed to Dr Suki Sian, Head of the Department of Accounting and Financial Management, at s.sian@qmul.ac.uk
