Job Details

Lancaster University is one of the UK’s top universities. It is ranked in the top 10 of UK universities across the three major national league tables. Lancaster was awarded the title of University of the Year in 2018, and has recently being named International University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.

Sunway University is one of Malaysia’s leading private universities, rated five star overall by QS, and 5-star (Excellent) three times in a row in the Malaysian national university quality assessment exercise, SETARA.

Building on the success of the longstanding Lancaster University - Sunway University partnership and a shared interest in cities research our two institutions are creating a new, joint, Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI).

The creation of FCRI will make a major contribution to global research on sustainable cities, helping to tackle major global challenges associated with the rapid current urbanisation across the global south.

We are seeking to appoint a talented individual to lead the development of the FCRI. Applicants should have a proven research track record with future cities research interests and be an accomplished academic leader who can provide strategic direction for the FCRI.

The post will be based at either the Sunway campus in Malaysia or the Lancaster campus in the UK and will be expected to travel regularly between the two universities spending substantive time in both institutions.

Applications should consist of a full CV and letter of application, which should indicate how you fit the person specification and how you meet the requirements of the job description.

Formal interviews will take place on the Lancaster University campus in the UK and it is expected that candidates will be able to travel to this.

For further information about the Director role, please contact Professor Kirk Semple (Lancaster - UK) at k.semple@lancaster.ac.uk or Professor Peter Heard (Sunway - Malaysia) at pheard@sunway.edu.my

Closing Date: Friday 13th December

Stage 1 preliminary interview: To be held via Skype in January 2020

Stage 2 formal Interview Date: To be held at Lancaster University (UK) in early 2020
