Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC)

We have an exciting opportunity to join Construction Scotland Innovation Centre as a Lead Skills Manager.

The Construction Scotland Innovation Centre supports Scotland's construction related businesses, clients and key stakeholders to collaborate, innovate and grow by matching innovation requirements with business support and academic excellence. We offer advice, funding, facilitation and access to appropriate expertise, improving Scotland's competitiveness and growing economic, social and environmental impact. Activity focuses around key challenges & opportunities for the sector including digital transformation, accelerating industrialisation, building sustainably and cultural change.

The role is based at CSIC's Innovation Factory at Hamilton International Technology Park. This unique GBP 2.5million facility supports the construction sector to innovate, collaborate and grow, featuring advanced technology and specialist equipment including industrial robotics, digital manufacturing tools and virtual and augmented reality technology that can be used for prototyping, commercialisation and training purposes, alongside meeting and event spaces where the sector can come together to explore the future and learn.

The Role

The Lead Skills Manager is to lead the strategic direction and delivery of the CSIC future skills programme to help transform the construction industry. The programme is rapidly expanding and now requires an experienced and effective leader to drive its ongoing success.

The role takes on responsibility for  identifying and supporting the future skills needs of businesses and key clients in the construction sector, pulling in innovation and skills funding as well as academic and business support specialists where required, facilitating transformational future skills projects.
Secondly, the role takes on responsibility for managing and reporting on the performance of the future skills programme to the Head of Innovation & Projects and ultimately the SLT as well as to our Board and funders.

The role also holds stakeholder engagement responsibility to ensure regular communications and engagement with key stakeholders in CSIC's skills and training networks.

The role will involve frequent travel throughout Scotland and occasionally within the UK/EU/Internationally as required.

Who We Are Looking For

A candidate to lead the skills team to develop and deliver outstanding future skills programmes and projects, grow the skills offerings to industry, meet external funding targets and keep CSIC at the forefront of skills innovation in the construction sector.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Degree or equivalent OR professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant experience working in the education, skills and training sector in a leadership or strategic role
  • Experience in the development of future-focused skills programmes for the construction sector
  • Strong networks in the construction and/or skills sectors in Scotland and the UK
  • Experience of complex project development and management involving multiple senior stakeholders
  • Strong business development experience and evidence of ability to meet financial targets
  • Experience managing teams in the skills sector with varying levels of experience

Desirable attributes:

  • Knowledge of innovation in the construction sector including digitisation, industrialisation, culture change and building sustainably
