Applications are invited for the role of Diabetes Research Delivery and IT Coordinator in the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service. The Blizard has 7 main research centres, and diabetes research is part of the Centre for Genomics and Child Health. The diabetes clinical specialty consists of dedicated clinical academics carrying out translational work to directly impact upon and improve the lives and clinical outcomes of diabetes patients in the local population. The group works closely with Barts Health NHS Trust, CCGs and General Practices.
The diabetes research portfolio currently consists of a clinical trial for new treatments in diabetes gastroparesis and we have completed expressions of interest for diabetic foot ulcer trials and prevention treatments in T1 diabetes. Our portfolio also includes observational studies on T1D for young adults, NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in diabetes), and rarer forms of diabetes such as classifying MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young), as well as surveys and questionnaires – all of which require meticulous data entry and management. A significant part of our research work, and subsequently this post, is managing a large diabetes database (DARE) of over 12,000 members who are invited into other research studies. Our studies are all on the National Institute for Health Research portfolio and we also work with our own patient group to improve the quality of diabetes research both locally and further afield.
The post is a full time, fixed term appointment for 1 year, with an expected start in early January 2020. Starting salary will be in the range of £34,220 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
