Overview:

Applications are invited for one of two 12 month Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Assistant positions in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London to work on the broad area of networks and measurements. The position will be funded by the EPRSC project EARL: sdn EnAbled measuRements for aLl. The goal for the EARL project is to pioneer SDN enabled measurement-based network management to enhance the Internet infrastructure. The position can be also renewed subject to funding availability.

The successful applicant at Research Assistant level must have an Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in Computer Science, Electric/Electronic Engineering or a related topic. Knowledge of Software Programming skills (e.g., Python, C, C++) and familiarity with the full TCP/IP network stack and its associated protocols is essential for this post. It would be desired the applicant has experience in Networks and measurements. The applicant must have willingness to work with PhD students, postdocs and colleagues in the group on open-source code, and lead and participate in the preparation of academic publications on the research activities conducted in this area.

The successful applicant at Postdoctoral Research Assistant level must have a PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience) in Computer Science, Electric/Electronic Engineering or a related topic. Excellent Software Programming skills (e.g., Python, C, C++) and knowledge of the full TCP/IP network stack and its associated protocols, is essential for this post. The applicant must have willingness to work with PhD students, postdocs and colleagues in the group on open-source code, and lead and participate in the preparation of academic publications on the research activities conducted in this area. Experience with conducting research, understanding the research process and summarising findings, and academic paper writing in topics related to the area of research of this project is an essential criteria for this role.

This is a full time fixed term post for 12 months starting 1 January 2020 or as soon as feasible after this date. For an appointment as a Research Assistant the starting salary will be in the range of £31,613 - £33,324 per annum inclusive of London allowance. For an appointment as a Postdoctoral Assistant the starting salary will be in the range of £34,220 to £44,807 per annum inclusive of London allowance. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
