Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Music Theory and Musicology) (PR0196/19-20) 

The Department of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University (http://mus.hkbu.edu.hk) invites outstanding applicants for a tenure-track appointment as Associate Professor / Assistant Professor specialising in the cross-disciplinary field of music theory and musicology. The appointee is expected to have a vibrant track record of innovation in research publications, in acquiring publicly funded grants, in developing international linkages, and in service to the global profession. In addition, he/she should articulate a 21st-century vision for teaching a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses effectively, including both core and elective courses in theory, music history, and/or other courses assigned by the Head of Department.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in music (PhD degree or equivalent) and extensive collegiate-level teaching experience. Preference will be given to those with expertise in one or more areas relating to the Department’s strategic development: a) music theory, including theoretical systems, structure and analysis, the history of theory and compositional practices, and musical cognition; b) musicology, including historical musicology, film and media, cultural history, opera, and historical performance; c) interdisciplinary research involving creative media/practice, well-being and the public good.

The appointee is expected to be an active member in Department and Faculty-level administration, including (but not limited to) quality assurance, curriculum development, academic advising, supervision of undergraduate Honours Projects and postgraduate research, active participation in student recruitment, juries, and auditions.

The appointment is offered on a tenure track. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2020. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
