About the position

The Department of Information Security and Communication Technology (IIK) has a vacancy for a position as a Postdoc at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (IE), in the cross-disciplinary field of cyber security. This is a researcher position aimed at providing promising postdoctoral researchers the opportunity of further academic development.

The position’s working place is in at NTNU’s campus in Trondheim and reports to the Head of Department

Main duties and responsibilities

The appointment is for a term of three years. The candidate will be concerned with design and analysis of cognitive network and service management in the context of softwareized and virtualized networks. Depending on the skills of the candidate, different aspects may be emphasized, for instance by focusing on

  • ML/AI-based and data-driven management approaches for 5G networks.
  • Use-case driven evaluation of cognitive management approaches within the 5G eco system.
  • Performance analysis and modelling of SDN/NFV-based systems.
  • Advanced service monitoring approaches provided by SDN/NFV.
  • Safety and security mechanisms for software-defined networking.

The research will be carried out as an integrated part of the networking research group and under guidance of Prof. Thomas Zinner.

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in computer science or electrical engineering or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. Further requirements include a strong academic background at least one of the following areas

  • New network and service architectures and paradigms (5G, TSN, CCN,… ).
  • Mathematical modelling, analysis or optimization approaches in the area of software-defined networks.
  • Safety and Security aspects related to software-defined networks and virtualized network functions.
  • Data-driven/ML/AI-based network and service management for software-defined networks.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

  • Publication activities in the aforementioned disciplines.

  • Good written and oral English language skills.

We offer

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 per year. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
