Applications are invited for the position of International Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Design delivering teaching at the Joint Institute, located in Nanhai New District in the Weihai city-region of Shandong Province, China, as part of the international strategic partnership that has been established between Lancaster University and Beijing-Jiaotong University (LUC@BJTU).

Since September 2016 undergraduate programmes in Computing, Design, Engineering and Environmental Science have been on offer to Chinese and international students, co-delivered by Lancaster and BJTU academics. Graduates of the programmes will receive a degree from both institutions and a joint academic transcript.

You will deliver undergraduate modules in design studio and related contextual studies and undertake research and/or scholarly activity in design. The post will require 2 teaching assignments in China each year. You must hold a doctoral degree in design or have equivalent professional experience, a record of scholarship and/or research, and at least two-years’ experience in teaching at University level in a Western university.

You must be capable and willing to work overseas with a teaching workload for periods of 8 to 10 weeks in duration, and effectively use the time in between for preparation of teaching materials and assessment of coursework at Lancaster University, alongside research and scholarly activities.

You will have a comprehensive induction at Lancaster University before your first assignment to China. During the induction period and as part of your development programme, you will be assigned a mentor at Lancaster University.

Members of academic staff are entitled to paid accommodation in Nanhai, travel allowances and medical insurance under Lancaster University’s International (Short term) Assignment policy.

Academic standards will be subject to rigorous quality assurance, including continuous moderation of assessment setting and marking.

This is a full time, indefinite appointment. Appointment will be made at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, in accordance with the criteria detailed in the person specification.

Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Digital Transition Officer within the Transitions team.  

You will contribute to the digital development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services.  Support will be focused on improving the transition to University and the student experience of specific Widening Participation (WP) groups including disabled students and mature students.  You will need experience of developing on-line training or support, and of developing and designing attractive web content.  You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop effective schemes and services.You should have experience of collection and analysing data, as well as excellent organisation and problem solving skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.  

You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services. You should have experience of preparing written reports and the ability to present evaluation data in a meaningful way for a variety of audiences. Knowledge and understanding of disability would be an advantage.  Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.
