About the position

The Department of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering at NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has a vacancy for a postdoctoral position in production management. The appointment has a duration of 2 years, starting January 1st, 2020.

We are looking for an excellent and motivated postdoctoral researcher who would like to contribute to the Production Management research group at NTNU Trondheim. The successful candidate for this position will be involved in the multi-national research project “Lean 4.0 - Lean European Action-Learning Network utilising Industry 4.0”. The project aims to integrate Industry 4.0 technologies with Lean manufacturing, and develop knowledge needed to educate the operations manager of the future.

The position offers an opportunity to work on the interface between science and industrial applications, develop and test empirically motivated models and methods, and produce knowledge that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant. The research is carried out in collaboration with Rosen in Germany, Mitsubishi and VMI in Netherlands. These companies are producing capital goods in low volumes, and there is a need to develop more lean production flows with the support of digital systems and smart technologies.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Research in production management and digitalisation
  • Develop knowledge about how digitalisation and Industry 4.0 enable the future of lean manufacturing 
  • Develop educational material within production management and digitalisation
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. The position requires university education at a doctoral level within production management.Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in production management or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The applicant’s research in production management must be documented and of international quality. Emphasis will be placed on ability and experience in initiating and leading research and development in collaboration with industry. Emphasis will also be placed on a documented commitment to teaching and development of educational materials, and supervision of students.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Essensial qualifications:

  • Strong scientific and methodological quality
  • Capacity and skills in writing and publishing scientific articles in renowned journals
  • The candidate should have disseminated her/his work at scientific conferences
  • Good pedagogic skills.

Desireable qualifications:

  • An international network (academic and industrial)
  • Knowledge in modelling and simulation will be considered an advantage.

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 per annum before tax. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
