Do you have experience of managing international projects? Are you interested in supporting a safe circular water economy considering waste, human health and energy, food and soil security? Would you like to manage the co-design and co-delivery of two community-based demonstration bioenergy systems in Ghana and Nigeria?

The vision, objectives and work plan for the ACTUATE impact project emerge from Lancaster's deep engagement with researchers and research users in sub-Saharan Africa through several GCRF-funded research and capacity-building projects. This project builds on a portfolio of GCRF-funded research and knowledge exchange  at Lancaster specifically RECIRCULATE/ www.recirculate.global

Africa is a strategic priority for Lancaster which is currently the only UK University to have a campus on the continent. In addition to our long-standing partnership building in Ghana and Nigeria, Lancaster University has grown national leadership in eco-innovation - innovation supporting both business growth and the environment. It has the capacity to translate high quality research into "real world impacts" as demonstrated by Lancaster's double award-winning Centre for Global Eco-innovation (CGE) http://www.globalecoinnovation.org . CGE has demonstrated that eco-innovation can deliver positive benefits to both the economy and the environment and is  fundamentally underpinned by the need for end-user driven research. At the heart of our eco-innovation vision for Africa is the needs to promote medium-to-long term economic growth that is both resilient to future climate and where possible able to mitigate the impact of environmental change.

You will work under the supervision of Professor Kirk Semple and colleagues, working with our partners in Ghana and Nigeria to manage the installation and optimisation of two off-grid community-based bioenergy systems – one on a University campus and one in a community school. The demonstration model will act as a proof of concept pilot for the waste management and related industry, policy makers, NGOs and government officials.

You will play a lead role in coordination, meeting deadlines, reaching specified milestones and deliverables, and in maintaining control of all financial transactions. The role requires regular visits to partner organisations in Ghana and Nigeria throughout the duration of the project.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact: Dr Ruth Alcock, Head of Enterprise & Business Partnerships r.alcock@lancaster.ac.uk Tel +44 1524 510 285.

This is a part-time (30 hours per week) fixed term position for 18 months. This post can also be offered on a secondment basis for current Lancaster University employees, subject to approval from your line manager.

We particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic people for this role in order to increase our staff diversity in this part of the University.
