Contract; Fixed Term until 29/1/2023
The Smart Materials & Surfaces group hosted in the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering at Northumbria University has strength in development of smart surfaces for liquid manipulation. Part of this strength is based on the development of so-called Slippery Lubricant Infused Surfaces SLIPS, and we are now seeking an excellent post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the numerical investigation of fluid dynamic properties of SLIPS in the presence of complex (non-Newtonian) fluids.
The role is to support a further recently awarded EPSRC New Investigator Award which aims at demonstrating the potential of non-Newtonian fluids to enhance the mobility of liquids on SLIPS surfaces. The role is theoretical/numerical and requires outstanding problem solving skills typically attained in theoretical physics/chemistry/engineering or equivalent, relevant doctoral project. In addition to development of fluid dynamic models for numerical simulations, the successful candidate will have experience of disseminating research outcomes at international conferences and in prestigious academic journals. The successful candidate will join the Northumbria University Smart Materials & Surfaces research group and will be expected to support all aspects of the group’s activities.
In addition to a strong track record of academic achievement demonstrated by excellent publications, applicants should have experience of phase field models (i.e. Lattice Boltzmann) and finite elements methods. Knowledge of rheological models for non-Newtonian fluids is desirable. The role will also involve working with industrial partners and therefore applicants should have excellent communication skills.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dr Ciro Semprebon at ciro.semprebon@northumbria.ac.uk.
