We have developed our existing portfolio of research with impact to create a suite of new University and Faculty Research Centres that are integral to our vision for the University.
The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing would like to recruit an Operational Manager within the Centre for Data Science.
The effective management and use of large amounts of data (Big Data) is a key driver of scientific research and economic growth in diverse areas such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, and Mathematical Modelling. A new Centre for Data Science, due to launch in January 2020, will help provide a fundamental scientific understanding and expertise in Data Science to support a very wide range of application areas:Medical, Engineering, Finance and Society. It will initially comprise three groups: Machine Learning for Big Data, Wireless Sensors and IoT, and Computational and Statistical Modelling.
The Centre will provide a much-needed focus to build research activity in Computing and Statistics, and the development of research capability in partnership with the Doctoral College and Centre for Capability through its Transnational Research Degree programmes in Applied Mathematics and Computing. Other key contacts will include the University's other research centres, as well as it's tier one research, industrial, and non-academic partners (in the UK and overseas).
As a senior leader, you will need to have experience of working in a start-up or business implementation role, high level management skills,demonstrating your track record of delivering strategies for growth and overseeing strategic and operational developments.
Taking responsibility for budget management, resources and development activities, you will be heavily involved in growing and managing new business partnerships, funding opportunities and driving income generation. A confident communicator, you will need to develop closeworking partnerships with senior management and academic colleagues to help deliver and lead the Research Centre's strategy in alignment with the University's vision for Research.
With at least an honours degree you will need to bring sound project management skills, experience of managing staff across a variety of functions and a passion for building strong business to business relationships.A relevant scientific background as well as experience bidding or supporting bids to quality research funders would be an advantage.
