The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust to investigate the regulation of contraction in the heart. We recently discovered a new class of regulatory mechanism that mediates the fast autoregulatory responses of the heart, and this project aims to discover how those mechanisms work on the timescale of the heartbeat. We expect the results to be transformative for understanding the regulation of the healthy heart and for development of new therapies for heart disease. The post-holder will be primarily responsible for developing new assays and protocols to mimic the heartbeat in permeabilised heart muscle cells, to determine the dynamics of the regulatory changes in the contractile filaments that control cardiac output.
The successful candidate is likely to have a PhD in physiology, pharmacology or a related subject, strong experimental and quantitative analytical skills, and an interest in a developing a career in cardiovascular research. Training in the relevant methods will be provided.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 5 years.
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent
The selection process will include a panel interview.
