About us

The University of Sydney supports and promotes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation at every level of study, work and research. It is a core part of our purpose as a university.  Strategy 10 of the University’s Strategic Plan 2011-2015 specifically focusses on promoting Indigenous participation, engagement, education and research. Under this strategy, we specifically identify our commitment to pathways and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to access and participate in higher education, and to pursue academic and professional careers at the University.

Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu (Wingara Mura), the University’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander integrated strategy launched in June 2012, maps how the University will expand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, research and engagement to become activity that is core to the University.

Wingara Mura is a whole-of-university approach which aims to ensure that all faculties and University services are committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advancement.

Since our inception 160 years ago, the University of Sydney has led to improve the world around us. We believe in education for all and that effective leadership makes lives better. These same values are reflected in our approach to diversity and inclusion and underpin our long-term strategy for growth. We’re Australia's first university and have an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. Across our campuses, we employ over 7600 academic and non-academic staff who support over 60,000 students.
