A number of vacancies have arisen for ICT Lecturers to teach technology subjects at the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems (DSCIS), offering the successful candidates an excellent opportunity to make a substantial difference to Defence personnel, preparing them for the inherent technological challenges they will face both now and in the future.

What We Do

DSCIS is a tri-service institution delivering technology courses to a range Army, RAF and Navy personnel at a variety of levels at Further and Higher Education (FE/HE). We work with a number of HE and FE partners in delivering the training, and we have an excellent reputation for delivering these technology subjects.

This includes leading research in Cyber Security and other ICT fields.

Based in IT Wing within 11 Signal Regiment, we are looking for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified individual to teach ICT subjects and related topics to highly motivated and experienced defence personnel.

As well as being an inspiring lecturer with the ability to enable all learners to reach their true potential, you will hold an appropriate subject qualification to degree level along with a level 5 teaching qualification or a willingness to obtain one.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To teach on a range of agreed programmes
  • Play an active role in IT Wing, and the activities of the college, through attending meetings, graduations and innovation sessions.
  • Engage in core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, preparing reports, setting and marking of examination papers, developing and preparing flexible learning materials

Person specification

Desirable Experience

  • Candidate should be well organised and able to manage the peaks and troughs of a varied workload.
  • Candidate should be able to communicate effectively with students and peers.
  • Desirable that candidate has relevant teaching experience within the FE/HE sector, or a military establishment

Qualifications

A minimum of a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject expertise. Exceptionally, candidates with significant experience of delivery may be allowed entry with Level 4 qualifications but should be supported to obtain level 5 if practicable.

In addition to this, a teaching qualification that equates to at least level 5 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) i.e. Cert Ed, is required. (The Postgraduate Certificate in Education is at level 6 on the QCF and is desirable.)

In exceptional circumstances, individuals may be recruited without such a teaching qualification. In this case there should be an agreement as part of the job offer that a teaching qualification will be undertaken and should be completed within two standard academic years. Successful achievement of the qualification is a requirement to retain employment.
