The Department

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is one of five departments in University College. Through its innovative general education common core curriculum, University College offers students a high-quality, foundational program, designed to prepare them for their future majors and professional careers. The experience engenders critical thinking, instills a desire for lifelong learning, and fosters intellectual curiosity. The General Education Program initiates the baccalaureate careers of all ZU students and has as its goal to build students’ understanding of their relation to the world and to equip them to be successful at the University, in their professions and in their personal lives through an integrated, skill-rich, interdisciplinary core curriculum.

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is responsible for providing learning opportunities in students’ first year through which students develop their leadership, global awareness, and quantitative reasoning competency in the General Education Program. Departmental instruction ensures that students meet the University’s standards of Leadership, Global Awareness, and Critical Thinking and Quantitative Reasoning, Zayed University Learning Outcomes. Instructors teach fifteen credit hours per week and are expected to have a consistent pace of engagement with their discipline/profession; they are expected to be active members of the University and College community.  

The Opportunity

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is seeking Instructors who will contribute to general education by teaching the following courses: the Quest for Happiness, Methods of Scientific Research and Development, and Fundamentals of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching; University College is committed to student success and seeks faculty who are committed to ensuring it. We seek faculty who possess a strong commitment to teaching the University’s core curriculum and are advocates of General Education as understood in the US model of education. 

Candidates will be familiar with a learning outcomes-based curriculum and will value teaching introductory-level courses. Moreover, University College seeks instructors who are committed to their discipline and their own professional development. Teaching load at Zayed University is established at five courses per semester for instructors. The Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Education, Social Work/Education Counseling, and Engineering to teach a happiness and well-being course; an introductory research course; and a fundamentals of innovation and entrepreneurship course;
  • Commitment to innovative leadership, global awareness, quantitative-reasoning pedagogies and student-centered learning;
  • Evidence of commitment to excellence in classroom teaching;
  • Evidence of student-centered approaches to skills development in reading, writing, and critical thinking;
  • Experience in working with second-language learners or in international contexts is an asset;
  • The ability to integrate computer technology into the curriculum;
  • Experience of working with faculty teams on multi-section courses;
  • Fluency in English is required and the ability to work among diverse cultures is essential.
