Location: Mile End
Closing date: 21-Nov-2019

Overview:

The school of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on an EPSRC funded project “Molecular Manufacturing”. This project will be carried out under the guidance of Stoyan Smoukov, Head of the Active & Intelligent Materials Lab.

The aim of the project is to discover the molecular basis of novel phase transitions – from liquid or solid states to rotator phases – solid states with degrees of freedom. These have been implicated in the self-healing of biological systems and are the basis for the recently discovered phenomena of artificial morphogenesis from our lab.

Candidates should hold (or be about to be awarded) a PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in Computational Physics or a related discipline.  Experience of Molecular dynamics simulations and an understanding of research processes is essential for the role and experience of GROMACS is desirable.

The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 24 months and is available from 01 December 2019. Starting salary will be £31,613 to £40,194 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Smoukov at s.smoukov@qmul.ac.uk or on +44 (0) 020 7882 5305.
