PhD Position in Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Masaryk University, Czech Republic, offers two PhD positions in organic chemistry within the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry led by Dr. Jakub Švenda and Dr. Kamil Paruch (see: orgsyn.sci.muni.cz). Selected students will have an opportunity to initiate / join projects that deal with the preparation of interesting natural products and synthetic organic molecules with significant biological activity. The choice of target molecules stems from a curiosity-driven basic research and from the biomedical potential in human medicine. The current line of research explores structurally diverse small-molecule modulators of important cellular targets, including adenylyl cyclases, protein kinases, DNA nucleases and ribosomes.

Selected PhD candidates will receive a comprehensive training in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, and will be able to closely interact with biologists. Our international laboratory at Masaryk University is linked to academic and industrial partners within the Czech Republic, with good contacts to leading institutions abroad. We are also part of the International Clinical Research Centre (ICRC), which is a joint research centre of St. Anne´s University Hospital in Brno (Czech Republic) and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA) (see: http://www.fnusa-icrc.org/en/).

For further inquiries regarding the position, please contact Dr. Švenda: svenda@chemi.muni.cz

PhD Fellowship

In addition to the standard PhD Fellowship at Masaryk University, the candidate will receive financial support through the available research funds.
