The successful candidate will play a key role in a multi-centre Parkinson’s UK funded randomised clinical trial to evaluate a new pharmacological treatment for people with Parkinson’s disease and Psychosis. The individual will work closely with the Lead PI for this study, Prof Sagnik Bhattacharyya and other investigators and collaborators involved in this study. The aim of this clinical trial is to obtain preliminary evidence to support a subsequent pivotal clinical trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of a cannabinoid molecule as a treatment for people with Parkinson’s disease and Psychosis.

The successful applicant will ensure the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. The individual will contribute to the collection and recording of clinical trial data into the study database and play a key role in the assessment and monitoring of subjects. They will work closely with the other research and clinical staff working on the project and foster effective working relationships with the local services for Parkinson’s disease as well as Old Age Psychiatry to identify potential participants. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to develop their own research interests and may have the opportunity to register with the King’s College London for an MD (Res)/PhD.

This post is currently funded for 34 months. However, the post holder will be employed for 12 months in the first instance, which will be extended subject to satisfactory progress of the study. The post is ideally suited to a higher trainee in neurology or psychiatry who may wish to spend a period of time out of their clinical training programme when they may concentrate in research. In general, it would suit a clinician with an interest in psychopharmacology, neuroimaging and neuropsychiatric conditions.

Candidates should be highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement.

Fluency in English, both oral and written, is essential.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2022.
