Reference: R190454

Engineering & Applied Science

Salary: £41,526 to £49,553

Grade: Grade 09

Contract Type: Continuing

Basis: Full Time

Closing Date: 23.59 hours GMT on Sunday 17 November 2019

Applications are invited to join the School of Engineering & Applied Science, delivering Aston University’s Computer Science degree programmes.  Two full time, continuing posts are available within the Computer Science Department, which delivers distinctive and innovative programmes at undergraduate and Masters levels, as well as degree apprenticeships, that achieve some of the highest employability rates for CS graduates in the UK.  You will contribute to one or more of these programmes and will be committed to delivering high-quality teaching both on campus and in a distance-learning mode.

Successful candidates will support increased demand for our programmes, and we are looking for enthusiastic teachers, well versed in designing and delivering modules that meet the study requirements of specific learner audiences.  You will have the ability to teach across a range of Computer Science topics, to students who range from first year undergraduate to Masters level using lectures, seminars and laboratory-style teaching. Delivery modes used will include both on-campus and remote delivery.

Computer Science is a dynamic and fast-changing discipline and those appointed will be capable of reflecting on each cycle of delivery, keeping their module content under constant review and innovating as appropriate.  You will be responsible for the design and grading of student assessments and will meet the required service levels for (e.g.) return of marks.

Successful candidates will have, as a minimum, a good first degree in Computer Science or related discipline. The ability to explain complex computing concepts in a clear, concise and engaging way to a variety of students with different abilities is essential. Excellent communication skills are crucial as is a disciplined approach to providing thorough, timely feedback. The ideal candidate would also be familiar with online teaching platforms (Blackboard Collaborate or similar).
