WMG, University of Warwick

Regius Professor of Manufacturing

Salary negotiable

Full time, indefinite position

Location: Coventry

Ref: 80265-109

WMG was bestowed the prestigious Regius Professorship in Manufacturing by Her Majesty the Queen in 2016. The first postholder was the late Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, WMG’s founder and former Chairman. We are now seeking to recruit to the post with an exceptional researcher in the area of Manufacturing as WMG enters its fortieth year in 2020.

Regius Professorships recognise research excellence and celebrate the key role of research in driving growth and productivity.  The ethos of WMG is to provide “academic excellence with industrial relevance” and the department conducts cutting-edge research that is both based in and applied to the real world, and considers “manufacturing” in its widest sense.

The largest academic department at Warwick, WMG is a leading multidisciplinary group with 34 research capabilities working across ten buildings on the central campus.  Founded in 1980, we are driving innovation in areas including electrification, intelligent vehicles, advanced manufacturing and materials, digitally enhanced manufacturing, health and wellbeing, cyber security, circular economy and organisational and societal transformation.

We are looking for someone who is a world-leading specialist to provide academic creativity in the field of manufacturing, working with a range of WMG’s industrial partners and collaborators.  The activity will focus on the development of outstanding research in a relevant area, aligned to WMG’s research portfolio. The post holder will be expected to engage with WMG’s existing academic and industrial collaborators as well as establishing new partnerships.

Candidates should have a proven record of outstanding quantitative research, with an international reputation and publications of the highest quality, a track record in successfully bidding for external funding, and an ability to demonstrate research impact and engage in knowledge exchange.  It is anticipated that the standing of the successful candidate will have already been recognised externally, for example through elected Fellowship, Medals or Awards.

At WMG we are committed to supporting staff to achieve their potential. We currently hold the Athena SWAN Bronze Award and the University of Warwick holds an Institutional Silver Award: a national initiative that recognizes the advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all in academia. We are supportive of staff with caring responsibilities including a generous maternity/paternity/adoption/parental leave policy, and onsite childcare facilities.  We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.

For an informal conversation about this role, please contact Professor David Mullins, Interim Head of Department (david.mullins@warwick.ac.uk).

Closing date: 19 November 2019.
