Technical Skills Instructor/ Development Officer - Model Making and Design Facility

Full-time/ Permanent

Working in the School of Mechanical, Automotiveand Aerospace Engineering, you will be committed to contributing to ourcontinued success in delivery of engineering programmes. You will join a School with high levels of teaching quality and student satisfaction (ranked in the Guardian University Guide 2020 in the country's top three for our courses in Mechanical Engineering).

Your main duties will be to work alongside academic staff within the School to deliver technical assistance and appropriate training to students on specialist academic courses and to provide technical support in the engagement and use of the specialist Model Making and Design Facility, which contains a range of apparatus including conventional wood-cutting machinery and hand tools, laser cutting and engraving, CNC model making milling machines and polymer forming equipment.

In addition, you will oversee and implement the safe working procedures and on going maintenance of the machinery and associated tools and equipment within the model making facility, as well as ensuring that a safe and productive workshop environment is provided for staff and students at all levels.

You will be educated to a fully apprenticed or degree level in an appropriate discipline and will have a high level of workshop technical and experimental skills. These must include mechanical design experience, general workshop practice skills relating to machining and fabrication in non-metallic materials and the maintenance and development of a workshop facility.

You must bean active team player and contribute to the creation of an open positive and helpful environment that promotes all of the disciplines within the school of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering.

Furthermore; experience of cabinet making, pattern making, precision carving and rapid prototype technologies for the production of complex three-dimensional geometry in non-metallic materials would be advantageous.
