Lecturer

An opportunity exists for a Lecturer in the area of Seismic Interpretation and Petroleum Geology to join the School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen.
This position will primarily enhance existing research excellence in the School of Geosciences through high profile publications and high-impact research resourced from externally-funded projects, particularly in relation to UK Industrial Strategy Funding, the Global Challenges Research Fund or commercialisation activities. This is aligned with the University’s institutional commitment to directing its research profile towards interdisciplinary challenge-orientated research. Consequently, the successful candidate should already have, or rapidly develop, strong international orientation to their research. In a highly competitive higher education market, the need to employ exciting and innovative teaching techniques is a key attribute of this role.
The candidate should possess a strong applied geological skillset in seismic and/or quantitative interpretation skills coupled with a strong geological and petroleum geology background. Individuals should have a range of skills within the fields of hydrocarbon exploration, production, field development, field management and decommissioning. The ability to interact and inspire our students is essential. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to create exciting and innovative teaching materials and.
The individual will be committed to developing a research profile through challenge-orientated research projects in collaboration with other staff in the School of Geosciences, elsewhere in the University and internationally. The appointee will be committed to delivering high-impact research that is publicised through outreach activities, and will be a team player able to lead and participate in larger, complex interdisciplinary research projects.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale (£41,526- £49,552 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 3 year probation period.
