Further Information:

St Mary’s University is a high performance centre for sport and aims to maximise student engagement in sporting activity by increasing participation and sporting excellence, utilising our World Class Sports facilities. St Mary’s have recently developed a new Strategy for Student Sport (More than a Game) and aim to become a top performing British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS) institution.

St Mary’s Men’s Rugby Union Club are one of the university’s top performing clubs. Following a very successful first year working in collaboration with Old Elthamians RFC, the first team gained promotion to the BUCS Premier South A division, the league below BUCS Super Rugby. Alongside this, our second and third teams have significantly improved in recent years, gaining three consecutive promotions. With the teams currently sitting in Tier 4, it is hoped that the club will be able to achieve further promotions in 2019/20.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced coach to drive the development and performance of the programme and players to help St Mary’s become the UKs leading rugby union HE institution. The appointed individual will coach across all three teams in the club, leading on training sessions and match days with our 2nd and 3rd teams. The successful applicant will instil a professional culture within the club and set clear goals that will contribute to the growth and development of the team.

The post will involve working up to 11 hours per week (depending on fixture schedule); comprised of coaching delivery, session planning, development work and fixture/competition attendance.

The closing date for all applications is at 23:59 on 31st October 2019 with interviews to take place during club training times. Please note we may interview and appoint candidates prior to the deadline date.

Other significant league table changes include a rise of 25 places in the 2019 Guardian University Guide league table, to 80th in the UK, and 17 places in the Complete University Guide as a notable climber.

In addition, we have a vibrant culture and environment.

Our core values; inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence underpin all we do as a University and we are actively working to embed these into our daily behaviours.  We want to create the best possible conditions for our students and staff to develop into independent problem solvers and ethical leaders, enthusiastic about knowledge and learning, and able to get things done.
